2 Part Technique — When you are feeling uncomfortable playing Closed Guard and need to transition out to a better position, do so with 2on1 Control. As you opponent bases his leg to defend the control, uncross your ankles and hoist his leg onto the Partial X Guard with your Cross-Hook. To sweep him, capture the far sleeve and extend your hooks; the key to this is to not let your opponent know when the sweep will happen. If your opponent folds your legs before you can elevate him to Partial X, simply transition to Half Guard with the 2on1 and switch for the Cross Arm & Belt Sweep.
