4 Part Lesson — Marcelo explains his Cross Collar Choke from Side Control: [I] Form grips on your opponent's shoulder and around his belt to prop yourself up into Knee-On-Belly for more attacking options when he defends. Slide your hand inside his Cross Collar and pull him onto his nearside as you take off your knee. Next, make a grip behind his shoulder and drop your forearm across the topside of his neck to place pressure for the choke. [II] If your opponent tries to defend against you pulling him onto his side and making the grip, snag his sleeve or arm and pull it under your chest. Try to finish from here but if you need more pressure, grab the back of his gi and slide your forearm back onto his neck from behind. [III] If your opponent won't let you grab his farside arm to pull it under your chest, bait him into pulling Half-Guard. When he turns onto his side, push his arm into position and finish as per the previous steps. [IV] Note that; if your opponent tangles up your arms while you're grabbing his far shoulder, you will be susceptible to a reversal if you leave your knee on his belly.
