2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo escapes straight anklelocks: If your opponent falls back for a leglock against your guard, especially in a situation where you arrive back to your guard after having recovered from a previous exchange, sit up and cling to your opponent's upper body with urgency. Stay as close to your foot as possible while you work to free your hips from your opponent's leg entanglement. If you are in a footlock on the sameside, play up into the Mount; if you are in a crossed variation, come up to Knee-on-Belly. If your opponent continues to work on your leg after rising to the top position, be prepared to eject from the lock by stepping on the opponent's arm and yanking your leg out. [05:14] If you encounter difficulty breaking the hold to come up on top, stay close to your opponent by pulling on the head, arms, and jacket. Sometimes, you can use your free leg to interfere with Anklelock to help disentangle your hips so that you can take the top position.
