Ceteris paribus, initially, why does the top position win? Note: Both players apply Type 3 Levers.

Top Advantages:

2. Positive Friction

How does bottom position achieve the final step in guard recovery?

1. The third option for the second leg to guard recover appears to require the user to generate additional kinetic energy via the length-tension relationship or push-pull dynamics.
