2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo counterattacks heavy passing pressure from Double-Unders/Body-Lock: If your opponent is pressuring you with their shoulder to pass your Half Guard but they're keeping their hips too high, use their high center of gravity against them and bump them off or roll them through. However, if your opponent is driving heavily with Double Under-Hooks and keeping their hips low and away from center, you have to deal with the situation before things get too dire. Use your forearms to wedge your opponent's chest, neck, and shoulders until you have enough space to double-up your hands for a Frame. Use the Fame to help insert your elbow into inside space so you can freely pummel and Under-Hook and go on the offense. If they are not exposing their Back after you've pummeled for the Under-Hook and turned up onto your side, release the Figure-4 of your Half Guard and open your legs to pummel your foot inside for a Butterfly-Hook. You can insert your foot from above or below your opponent's knee for the hook. Find an upper body control to execute a Hook Sweep, whether it be Under-Hook & Elbow Control, Head & Arm, or just their shoulder clamped with a Gable-Grip. [05:27] If you are the one on top and looking to pass the Half Guard with heavy shoulder pressure, don't let your opponent's hands help build counter-pressure by connecting together and Framing. Focus your pressure on your opponent's hands and wrist to separate them and force your opponent to miss their chance to win back inside space with their forearms and Framing. Marcelo creates a drill for his Advanced Class to work on this skill; partners are to start in Half Guard and continually pummel for an Under-Hook. When the timer rings, they must fight either to keep and win with their Under-Hook or find a counter to defend against it.
